LEDGER 31: THE BAYCURRENT CLASSIC
The conviction overweight cashed
STATUS: { VERIFIED } PERFORMANCE AUDIT
TO: Syndicate Members
EVENT: Baycurrent Classic · Yokohama Country Club, Japan (Oct 8–11)
PURSE: $8M | FIELD: 72 · No Cut (FedExCup Fall · 500 pts)
AUDIT: Brief 35 published card · 2–0 · +39.0u on 6.0u
Michael Brennan won by one shot. Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell finished at −15. If either had holed one more putt, the 1.0u winner ticket is a dead 1.0u and the week reads +10.0u instead of +39.0u. That 29-unit swing is the whole design of Brief 35: a core position sized to pay the bills, and a small convex ticket priced at 3.4% by the market and sized so a miss cost almost nothing.
I. THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Yokohama Country Club (par 71, ~7,322 yds, 72 players, no cut) ran as a terminal test of four-round floor depth, not single-round ceiling. The winning total landed at −16 (268). Twelve players finished at −12 or better, and the Top 10 line closed at −12. Separation came from four days of avoided damage, not birdie volume.
Brief 35 put price and trend ahead of longer-term skill on one name and sized it as a conviction overweight rather than a core anchor. It was a deliberate, sized exception. It was not a rule change, and the overweight cashed.
Primary Factor: Current Fall form and true strokes-gained trend on Michael Brennan.
Secondary Factor: The Avoid filter held. Thomas finished T23 and Morikawa T33.
Final: Michael Brennan −16 (1st, $1.44M of $8M) · Keith Mitchell / Jacob Bridgeman −15 (T2) · Brian Harman / Xander Schauffele / Stephan Jaeger / Ryan Gerard / Jordan Smith −13 (T4) · Ren Yonezawa / Min Woo Lee / Sungjae Im / Zach Bauchou −12 (T9).
II. ASSET PERFORMANCE ATTRIBUTION
Brief 35 published card.
ASSET | STRATEGIC ROLE | BREAK-EVEN | RESULT | YIELD STATUS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Michael Brennan | Primary Position — Top 10 (+220 · 5.0u) | 31.3% | WIN · 1st (−16) | CONVICTION DELIVERY: 5.0u → 16.0u (+11.0u) |
Michael Brennan | Value Spec — Winner (+2800 · 1.0u) | 3.4% | WIN · 1st (−16) | CONVEXITY DELIVERY: 1.0u → 29.0u (+28.0u) |
Card: 2–0. The 1.0u ticket paid 2.5 times what the 5.0u core paid.
III. PORTFOLIO YIELD SUMMARY
Total Capital Risked: 6.0 Units
Total Capital Returned: 45.0 Units
NET WEEK YIELD: +650.0% (+39.0 Units)
Drawdown context: Presidents Cup (−1.0u) and Bank of Utah (−8.0u) cost 9.0u. Baycurrent recovered that 4.3 times over.
IV. INSTITUTIONAL NOTE
Protocol: one name, two markets, 6.0u total, deliberately below the 8–14u drawdown band. The overweight broke the 4.5u anchor ceiling on price and trend, and the winner ticket carried the convexity.
Two points carry forward. First, form earns an overweight only inside a qualified field. Course DNA and longer-term skill remain the base layer (OS Part VII), and trend is a sizing tiebreaker on top of it. Second, the discipline cost nothing. Schauffele (T4) was a short price we passed on, and the yield didn’t suffer for it.
Next capital: off-week, then the Butterfield Bermuda Championship (Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton, Oct 22–25). Brief 36 to follow.
